The BGCS has strong links with the third sector, we support a number of superb charities with their work, providing expert reviews on research bids, patient information and charity events. We know from talking to and listening to our patients and their families that the support and information that the charities provide is invaluable for many. Our charity partners provide patient forums, buddy groups, information leaflets and living with and beyond cancer events.
We believe that the third sector (charities), provide a different forum for the patient voice to be heard. We know that people will open up in different ways when they are listened to by peer and non healthcare groups. Gathering of this information on patient thoughts and needs is vital to us to help improve quality of life during and beyond treatment.
We hold a tri-annual conference with our charity partners looking at aspects of Survivorship (living with and beyond cancer), and have learnt so much from these events.
In addition, the third sector, supports us the health care professionals as well as the women we care for, having a voice in Parliament, lobbying in Parliament for improvement in patient care, standards, treatment equipoise across the country.
We hope you will find additional help and support for yourself or your family members on the following pages. The list here is by no means exhaustive, if you are a charity or support group and would like to be included in the content please do contact tracie.miles@nhs.net
