Ovarian Cancer Audit Feasibility Pilot
The British Gynaecological Cancer Society, Target Ovarian Cancer and Ovarian Cancer Action in collaboration with NCRAS are proud to announce the launch of the websites and preliminary data reports for the Ovarian Cancer Audit Feasibility Pilot. The collaboration is a joint project to map ovarian cancer care, surgery and survival across the NHS.
The jointly-funded Ovarian Cancer Audit Feasibility Pilot in England prepares the ground for a crucial full-scale clinical audit in ovarian cancer. The UK government funds clinical audits in other diseases and conditions mapping care pathways, surgery and survival and addressing regional variation. Currently there are clinical audits for lung, bowel, breast, prostate and oesophago-gastric cancers.
The Ovarian Cancer Audit Feasibility Pilot explores a new approach to clinical audits. Rather than collecting new data, it makes use of COS-D cancerdata that is routinely collected by gynaecological oncology MDTs, and other routinely collected data from Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) and chemotherapy (SACT) data sets. It is hoped the ovarian cancer audit feasibility pilot will lead to a publically funded national ovarian canceraudit to drive improvements in clinical practice, in addition to providing a clinical audit model that can be rolled out across other cancers. Due to limitations in data access the pilot is limited to England, but the long-term aspiration is to see audits established across all four UK nations.

Reports and other data outputs from the project are published on two websites:
1. Cancerstats2 is the NCRAS cancer data website sitting on the N3 server, and is only accessible with password access from a NHS site behind the secure NHS firewall. Access is available to all members of gynae oncology MDTs and other individuals within trusts and cancer alliances who have reason to access the data. Access can be requested from a link on the Cancerstats2 website: https://cancerstats.ndrs.nhs.uk
During the course of the project over the next 18 months, detailed granular reports showing variation as appropriate by region, cancer alliance, provider trust or CCG will be uploaded to this site. Analyses will include assessment of data completion, treatment rates, variation in chemotherapy treatment and surgery rates and outcomes, and variation in survival and mortality.
2. A public-facing webpage has been established on the NCRAS Gynae Cancer Hub for publication of less granular reports from the project. This is accessible without restriction, and will be particularly valuable to our charity partners for promoting outcomes relevant to patients, carers and the general public. The site is easily accessed by searching “ncras gynae cancer hub” and following the link to the Ovarian Cancer Audit Feasibility Pilot:
